grinsei is the most advanced state there is in the continent of womeld. run by mages and humans alike, the cities truly never sleep; 24 hour stores, resturants that only open when the sun sets, and most famous of all, the umenti boarding school's day class and night class. while these programs and policies were implemented as accomodations for 'those with altered circadian rhythms,' this is only half the story... truly, grinsei is swarmed with vampires. thought to be carnivorous desecrations of the dead, anyone who even believes in them is sure to be scared of them.
however, that cannot be said for miss amani claes, president of the day class' student council. a rational woman by heart, she reasoned that even if vampires existed before, the demihumans had to have killed them all by now. why be worried? it was easy to reason off until she was given the noble role of ambassador of the entire day class.. so that she could have a conversation with the ambassador of the night class. and strengthen human-vampire relations in the school.. without letting either one class kill or eat each other. sounds easy right? no? well, that's too bad!

'what if vampire knight was fucking awesome?' was the thought that inspired me to make this. also, i wanted to let weird black gay people have their time in the modern fantasy limelight-specifically, a nuerodivergent black witch, and a queer black vampire. amani's last name is actually taken from 'reincarnated as the villainess,' but there are no regal elements, because i simply don't care for them in this story. also, this includes my take on vampires; rather than being just bloodsuckers, i felt that full on carnivores made more sense, to put them on the same level as werewolves (hence why they are considered enemies), and to give more meaning to the classic 'neck bite.' rather than it being a ritual of consumption, it is a ritual of conversion. vampires secrete a particular kind of 'poison' into their saliva and can bite humans to safely transfer it into their bodies, and turn them into vampires as well. this both alludes to the original allegory for sexual deviancy (a virgin human is 'tainted' by a vampire) and again, gives the bites reason. additionally, i've decided on a hierachy system for each race/species; humans at the top, mages (or witches) after, then demihumans (werewolves and the like), and on the bottom, vampires. with my black vampires, i want to illustrate the hypocrisy of antiblackness. they're desired as objects, but not as people. the students love them, but they're still targetted by hunters, and aren't even recognized by the systems put in place for their protection. (they're relegated to night shifts, night classes, night lives... but who is it really for?)
what i'm saying is i am Very passionate about vdemo, its themes, and its people. and i hope you guys will be too.
